How do Lads and Lasses…It’s been a while…

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well and surviving the apocalypse.

My last proper post was back in April 2019 and I’m not gonna lie 2019 was on track to be the most horrific year of my life. 2020 was the absolute cherry on the cyake and after looking forward to 2021… here we are in lockdown 3.0…

After 2 years I decided to log back into my CumbrianLass account and see what the crack was and in true Cumbrian style, the community spirit is oozing out of every single one of yous, it’s amazing, I had a dead good scroll through Fyacecrack, Insta & Twitter and it warmed my cold dead heart seeing all the positivity in our county. Despite the rise in Covid cases and the mounting pressure on services. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some dickheads floating about screaming opinions at each other, which, when the pandemic first started I was all up for getting involved but honestly it just became a massive drain. My mental and physical health took a huge nosedive and now I just block it out; as I’m sure most of you do! I’m still as proud as ever to be a CumbrianLass, and seeing all the positivity coming from our tough as owt county reminded me that together we can get through anything. So I couldn’t help but get back behind my keyboard to reach out properly to see how every yan was getting on and reconnect with you all.

For those of you who have followed me for a while, you may have noticed that the CumbrianLass Wedding blog never materialised and my blog came to quite an abrupt halt… long story short, there was no wedding. 2019 quickly became the worst year of my existence and it was touch and go for a while. However, as time went on, things started turning around and I learned some valuable lessons in love, life, family and friendship.

2019 ended up being the best year of my life and a huge turning point for me, and as we enter into the shitshow that is 2021, I thought it was about time I got back behind my keyboard and rekindled my love of writing and connecting with people. And that pretty much brings us to the present moment.

For 5 years, I represented CumbrianLass as a one woman band and alongside it, I was in a relationship. When that relationship came crashing down around me, so did CumbrianLass. I lost my heart and I lost my soul and I hit rock bottom. So I did what any broken CumbrianLass would do… I fell apart and moved back in with my ol’ lass and ol’ lad then; they sent in the troops… and by troops I mean the Lasses! We’ve all got those girls who have our back through thick and thin, WELL, my lasses are the absolute dogs bollocks and between them, they got me to where I am now.

So… t’other night I was thinking about the stages of a break -up. And you do go through that phase when your Marras are pretty much dragging you through each hour, each day and eventually each month by the scruff of your neck. And you become this infallible team, like a team of superheroes or in our case Anti – heroes  (haha) and as you get stronger you start reciprocating that support and you become this absolute force to be reckoned with.

So as I tapped away on my keyboard, making plans for our CumbrianLass, I realised that she had gone through this break up with me. She had been through the abuse, she had been through the trauma and she needed her team of Anti-Heroes too. She’ been through so much and she deserved the same level of love and support that I got to pick herself up, brush herself off and kill it online….     So… without further ado… it gives me GREAT PLEASURE to reintroduce you to the new CumbrianLass Anti-Heroes.

Welcome to the world of CumbrianLass.

I am a 30 something lass born and bred in Cumbria. I’ve lived here my whole life (apart from that time I went to uni, but let’s be honest, I don’t really remember much of it ?). I was born in Whitehaven and lived out West for the majority of my life; 6 years ago I moved to Carlisle so I could have the best of both worlds. The bright lights of the big city, with the beautiful lakes and fells in spitting distance. When I lost my job after Storm Desmond in 2015 I started this la’al blog as a way to help my marra’s have a laugh, stop my head from wobbling and try to make sense of what we had lost in that storm.

My la’al blog just kept getting bigger and bigger and it then evolved into a “Getting Hitched” blog to document my very Public and very Cumbrian Wedding. Long Story short, One bullet dodged, one short course in Domestic abuse and 18 months of PTSD & Trauma counselling later I find myself slap bang in the middle of a pandemic and twice now I have experienced something magical; The Cumbrian Spirit.

CumbrianLass is a continuation of the Cumbrian Spirit I saw in those months back in 2015 and the spirit I see now during this Covid 19 Shitshow. What started out as a laugh and a joke turned into a place to celebrate our county, raise spirits, connect with strangers who share the same ridiculous accent and know how to have a good crack.

When you’ve been homeless, penniless and shoeless you start putting things into perspective. But when you’ve been abused, abandoned & traumatised. It opens this whole new realm of healing and discovery. And in the last nearly 2 years, I’ve remembered Who I is, Where az Frae and What really f~*king matters. All with the help of my Anti Heroes

And what really matters I hear you ask?!?!?

You

You have to learn to love yourself, you have to learn to accept yourself, you have to heal and you have to let toxic go and often without explanation or closure. Only then can you focus on the quality of time spent with family, the quality of experiences, , the quality of date night, the quality of a quiet Sunday, the quality of that night out with the lasses (ladgeful). Experience is everything.

So I am relaunching this website into helping everyone find the quality in Cumbria, heal from the shit and doing what we can with what we have. Cumbria is not just pretty scenery and lakes it is so much more and its the people that make it. Every day is an adventure waiting to happen.

So, stick around folks, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride.

All my love

CL xx

The Anti – Heroes

TAC

This 5’3 Blonde Bombshell comes all the from jazz-loving New Orleans. Since immigrating in North Cumbria in 2002 she has firmly found her place amongst peace-loving, Cumbrian music scene.  You can often find her shaking her stuff to live music in Carlisle or performing herself as part of her band.  She is a woman of many talents, and owns her own creative agency in Carlisle specialising in design and marketing. She is the driving creative force on the Cumbrian Lass Team, creating our graphics and product packaging.

TAC is in the same club as our CeeEll and is gifted with Borderline Personality and Bipolar (which makes for great team meetings! he he). Tac fights the good fight everyday with the support of her anti-heroes. Tac is also champion the LGBT Community giving support to those in Cumbria fighting battles many couldn’t even begin to imagine.

TAC & CeeEll met over 3 years ago and her business and involvement with CumbrianLass comes from a place of solidarity with CeeEll over mental health, domestic abuse and their love of music.. You can often find them chatting in the wee hours making plans to take over the world and creating our own philosophies in life, love and madness.

Dee

is an open minded quick-witted Cumbrian with a zest for life. Not Cumbrian born but definitely Cumbrian raised! Residing in the not so sunny seaside town of Workington with her daughter. Dee has a love for the universe and everything in it. With a passion for improving health and wellbeing, Dee spends a lot of time building her empire and trying to make the world a better place. She’s often found shouting about things most of us would only dare say in the back of our heads but it’s almost always for a good cause!  Not one to one to shy away, Dee stands up for what is right even when the establishment would call her wrong.

She advocates for others and gives those without a voice a tannoy. Whatever personal journey she is on, her lasses go with her, learning the most valuable of life lessons together.  Back in 2016, when gatherings were allowed and Lowther Deer Park was full of festival goers at Kendal Calling, 2 big brown eyes, met two big blue ones in front of the Jagerhaus and the rest as they say is history. Since then CumbrianLass & Dee have been family…

Tee

Our fun-loving hippy from the concrete jungle they call Workington, however, this girl is a Whitehaven lass through and through. With an open-minded approach to the world, she doesn’t mind telling it how it is.  She is a stay at home single-parent who battles with her daily mentals. With her heart of gold, she wants to relate with others and let them know they’re not alone. She truly has that mam persona and embraces you in her natural warmth. However, divven’t be fooled lads and lasses! She has a sharp tongue and a quick bite, she stands for what she believes in and protects the ones she loves most.

Dee was the bridge that brought our Cee and Tee together. Dee just knew that her two best friends would be a bloody dream team, and that they are! 3 years ago, when humans could congregate and socialise, they met in a lal pub on’t corner. That night they shared their woes, put the world to rights and bonded over their love of whiskey. Since then, they have been doing all of the above and more.   Tee is the soft natured and free spirit this hardened world needs. We all need to be reminded its ok not to be ok and it’s perfectly acceptable to cry while you wash your dishes dancing to Psy Trance and Techno. You do what you gotta do, and Tee is here for you!

Elle

born and raised in South Lakeland, actually let’s not mess about, she’ a Barra lass through and through so, obviously… a very classy lass.

Elle Moved south for a few years… but as most Cumbrians do, she came back to the motherland  to spend time with her Dad. Poor dad was battling stage 4 cancer and he sadly lost his battle last year, but left our Elle with a zest for living life to the absolute full and a fire in her belly to get shit done!

She’s Loving having the great outdoors on her doorstep again and getting all the Cumbrian crack from her Marra’s and neighbours.  Elle is all about the new experiences, finding dead good scran, the great outdoors and she’s a top geek! (she was a geek before it was fashionable) Elle is a local business owner, and is a bit of a have a go at anything lass. She’s currently renovating her house and crafting her way through lockdown. But when the world is running as norm, she can often be found exploring the fells or playing out on her mountain bike!

Last year wasn’t a total write off for our Elle, she found the final piece of her jigsaw lying around in the West of Cumbria and he goes by the name of Jay. Turns out Jay has this mental best friend who has a habit of roping Elle into the most weirdest and wonderful of Schemes…Yes… you guessed it, our very own CumbrianLass

So, flanked by my very own Anti -heroes, this CumbrianLass is ready to get her game fyace back on and do what she does best… take over the world! We hope to bring you the best of the best of all things Cumbrian, tackle the subjects no one else dares, but above all have fun!

Speak soon Lad and Lasses
